The American College of Sports Medicine has released its annual report on wellness trends. The 2025 ACSM Worldwide Fitness Trends: Future Directions for the Health and Fitness Industry asked 2,000 experts in the field what they thought would be big over the next twelve months. There weren't too many surprises. Wearable technology continues to dominate the list, retaking the top spot. Fitness trackers and smartwatches are increasing their accuracy and range of biometric values, giving users greater insight into their health, fitness, and performance. Fitness programs for older adults came in third place, tallying with what we've seen in recent years with people using exercise as a preventive measure against future health risks. This aligns with an increasingly health-conscious ageing population embracing movement as medicine. Personal training only ranked at number 15, which will surprise some. There has been concern that it's less attractive now to gym users who may be used to relying on technology and artificial intelligence to support their training. Interestingly, worksite health promotion has also dropped out of the top ten. This was something that had ranked highly in last year's report. It's also something that we've been following closely as our ECO:POD—a modular wellness and sustainability space with electricity-generating bikes — has been popular with corporate clients. Exercising for mental health has, however, remained strong at number 8, hardly surprising when you consider that 78% of gym members say they go for their mental health. 👊 Top 20 Fitness Trends for 2025 Wearable tech Mobile exercise apps Fitness programmes for older adults Exercise for weight loss Traditional strength training HIIT Data-driven training technology Exercise for mental health Functional fitness training Health/wellness coaching Youth athletic development Influence/ambassador-led fitness programmes Outdoor fitness activities On-demand exercise classes Employing certified professionals Personal training Exercise is Medicine Body weight training Lifestyle medicine Hot and cold therapies If there's one additional thing worth noting, it's a growing emphasis on wellness. Lifestyle medicine, exercise medicine and health and wellness training all fall under the wellbeing umbrella. Some gyms are already stepping up their wellness offering with cryotherapy and recovery, nutrition and stress management services in addition to the wellness benefits that regular physical exercise provides. 📖 You can read the full ACSM report here. ⚡⚡ In 2025 and beyond, there will be a significant focus on sustainability.
